Arts Factory recently has been awarded use of the Disability Symbol from Jobcentre Plus
Disability Service.

The Disability Symbol, used since 1990, encourages employers to develop positive attitudes and practices towards employing and working with disabled persons. Use of the symbol communicates this commitment.

Employers who receive the symbol have demonstrated positive action towards disabled workers by adhering to five specific commitments across the full range of employment practices. These commitments affect areas of work such as recruitment, retention, development needs, progress review and raising awareness about working with disabilities.

Putting these principles and commitments into practice helps to achieve a more diverse workforce and sustain disability employment policy. Upon seeing the awarded symbol current and prospective employees, should they become disabled whilst working at a company using the disability symbol, can know what to expect from that employer.

Getting rid of misconceptions about disability can make all the difference when disabled employees are integrating into the workplace. Arts Factory's award of the Disability Symbol shows we have now taken a major, positive step towards improving employment conditions for disabled workers in the South Wales Valleys.
